As the leaves turn golden and the air chills, there's nothing quite like curating the perfect playlist to match the mood of October.
As the dusk of the year descends and October nights grow longer, it's time we explore the shadowy, rhythmic world of deep tech house.
This month, the Lazy Luxury playlist isn’t just sound; it’s an atmosphere, a landscape that winds through the caverns of moody basslines and echoes the relaxed, unsettled breezes of autumn nights. This time of the year always takes me to Healdsburg, which I always associate with dark, moody house… I like to call it Healdsburg House. :-)

I pick the Top 7 songs from the monthly playlist and put them at the front. Here’s October Picks. Each Top 7 is intimately arranged to flow. Each Top 7 gets put in the Lazy Luxury Top 7- both The Collection and the appropriate year. Though it’s fun to put on Random, it tells a perfect story of the seasons if you do it in order.

I love creating these monthly playlists because it’s almost like a time capsule in a playlist. In the future, if I’m ever trying to evoke a certain vibe, I find that choosing the playlist of that time really helps.
This time of the year, 10 years ago to this very day, I lived in Healdsburg.
Though it’s been a decade, it feels like yesterday and changed my life in many ways. It was one of the first times I was truly alone in my life, and I spent a lot of the time getting lost in music. I was so heartbroken and hurt that sometimes I feel like the music reflected it. It was one of my coldest winters (though not the coldest). I have so many thoughts of that time, and maybe I will make a personal post here later - & a friendly reminder, all personal posts are paid access! :-) I’ve been writing about it a lot while I was online.
That said, one thing that stands out to me from that time is music. Here is another playlist I made that really takes me there.
We delve deeper into the season's heart with each track, exploring the spaces between summer's last sigh and winter's looming whisper. It’s a compilation that acknowledges the darker nights, embracing the profound shifts within us as the year wanes.
What beats have captured your essence this October? Are there tracks or mixes that have encapsulated this month's twilight vibe for you?
