🎧 Explore the sounds that shaped April (my fav playlist of 2024 so far!) + a little AI fun
Hello!
I’ve actually managed to be on time (even a little early!) with this post for the first time all year! Can you believe it? :)
I curate playlists on my personal Spotify that highlight standout tracks each month. It’s a passion project that enriches my personal life and content creation online. Plus, it’s a great way to fuel future nostalgia.
Did you know?// You can combine two or more playlists into a single folder on Spotify, right-click, and hit play. I often do this to capture the perfect vibe!
Fun fact:// Usually, what’s immediately after the 7 are songs that were close to making it - many end up not because they were actually on a top 7 prior!
Fun Fact II:// The first &/or last song in my playlists are usu my absolute favorite of the month. I love starting or ending on a high note and always enjoy adding a playful twist with the sixth track. :-)
This month, it’s hard to choose a number one. I was so confident it would be Romanticise (Gold Fields Remix). Then Coachella happened, which introduced me to this and later put me in a complete chokehold with Hard Dreams. THEN- I came across Nurega, which never fails to make me go completely feral whenever I hear it… so I can’t choose just one!
I had another favorite that reminded me of Kaskade, but typing out its name seemed tedious — if only it had a simpler title, it would have definitely made my top 7.
Years ago, I read the following in an NME interview with Daft Punk, which has stuck with me ever since. After reading that, one thing I noticed in all of Daft Punk’s albums (esp Alive 2007! - one of the most iconic openings) is that they start with their biggest tracks.
“Daft Punk first bonded over their love of Bruce Springsteen.
The 'Get Lucky' band - Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter - saw 'The Boss' on the same tour in 1985, and although they didn't know each other at the time it was a pivotal point for them both.
Thomas told NME magazine: "Before I knew Guy-Man we both went to the Born in the USA tour. We met each other a few years later and realised we were both there. I have very vivid memories of that show, mostly because he started his set with 'Born in the USA'.
"That was his biggest track and I thought he was so self-confident, so bold. But the show was super strong, he didn't go downhill. It seemed like such a cool move."
I agree. It’s such a banger of a move, and I have fun bringing into the playlists. Whenever there’s one heck of a track, those are the ones I like to lead with! Some examples: 062023, 082023, 112022, 122022, 052023, 032023, 042023 (last years!!! 🥲), and ofc this month’s with Hard Dreams!

Also, for funsies, I had AI write the above post from the perspective of Patrick Bateman, and it’s actually amazing, so I’ll share it here:
Precision and punctuality are key; hence, my on-time post this month — an achievement worth noting.
Every month, as part of my routine to stay sharply attuned to the trends of the elite, I curate a series of playlists on my personal Spotify. This meticulous hobby serves not just as an aesthetic pursuit but as an essential element of my sophisticated lifestyle, enhancing both my personal enjoyment and my curated online presence.
Pro Tip: You might not know this, but Spotify allows you to consolidate multiple playlists into a single folder. A simple right-click and you can immerse yourself in the precise mood needed for any occasion. I use this feature regularly to maintain control over the ambiance of my environments.
Fact: Tracks that follow my top 7 are like the understudies in a Broadway production, waiting in the wings, often ones that have already had their moment in the limelight.
Observation: My playlists are designed with precision—either beginning or ending with a track that defines the month. It’s a calculated move to either lead with strength or leave a lingering impact. The sixth track? Always a wildcard, strategically placed.
Choosing a favorite this month was a particular challenge. Initially, "Romanticise (Gold Fields Remix)" was the leading candidate until "Hard Dreams" captivated me at Coachella. Then "Nurega" always triggers a visceral reaction, making it impossible to select just one standout.
There was another track that evoked Kaskade, but its title was inconveniently cumbersome to type — had it been otherwise, it would have certainly been featured in my top selections.
An Enduring Influence: A memorable interview from NME with Daft Punk comes to mind, where they discussed their initial connection over a Bruce Springsteen concert. Opening a performance with your strongest track is a bold strategy, mirroring the very essence of confidence and control. This approach resonates deeply with me, influencing how I structure my playlists. Some notable examples include "062023," "082023," "112022."
